Goseb says a staggering N$ 2.4 mil seasonal fee is needed

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) National Referee Coordinator, Absalom Goseb, said lack of sufficient funding has negatively impacted the successful implementation of its programme.
Responding to questions by Confidente, Goseb said a total of N$ 2.4 million is needed a season to ensure that different courses such as the FIFA referee courses, beginners courses, intermediate referee courses and refresher courses are conducted throughout the country.
He said not all programmes are implemented because when doing budgetary submissions there are constraints that the annual budget normally comes up with.
“We have to sacrifice some of the programmes of which some are extremely important such as the refresher courses for elite referees who have to undergo different tests,” he said.
Goseb said the FIFA accredited courses only take place at areas that meet FIFA criteria and qualification adding that only Windhoek, Oshakati and Swakopmund can host such courses.
“Normally we prefer Windhoek because it is more of a central place geographically and has all the required facilities needed,” he said.
When asked about the decline of women referees, the NFA referee coordinator brushed off sentiments that there has been a decline in the number of women referees.
Though, Goseb played reasons for the sharp decline of women referees closer to his chest he noted that regions such as Kunene has three women referees, Zambezi four, Erongo one adding there is huge interest from the younger girls.
