Police officer ignores restraining order, threatens to kill wife

A WINDHOEK woman has been placed in a safe house after her police officer husband repeatedly threatened to kill her despite the woman having obtained a court protection order.
The domestic violence protection order granted against Constable Joseph David (50) a year ago however proved worthless, when a fortnight ago he reportedly kicked out his wife Regal (51) of their common house in Katutura. Ironically, this is despite the order instructing him to leave the house.
Regal obtained a protective restraining order against David after writing in an October 2014 complaint that he threatened to kill her after she discovered his adulterous relationships that saw him father two children.
She also filed criminal cases against her husband after he reportedly battered her on several occasions and had his girlfriend’s verbally insult her, but despite these early debacles police did not take her case seriously until the matter was reported to Nampol’s Inspector General, Sebastian Ndeitunga.
Had it not been for Ndeitunga, Regal would still be homeless living at the benevolence of her friends. For two weeks she has been squatting at friends’ and relatives’ homes, carrying only a backpack with a few clothes and toiletries.
Ndeitunga last week ordered Regal be placed in a safe house until the matter is finalised. “She is in a safe house until we get the matter solved,” he said.
