TWO teenage boys that cycled to Swakopmund to raise funds for the We Care Trust social responsibility projects under the guidance of businesswoman Karen Woermann; so as to help with the urgent need of schools for children with multiple learning disabilities; raked in a whopping N$540 000.
In a thoughtful move, the boys donated N$100 000 to First Lady Monica Geingos’ non-profit organisation, One Economy to help with her national projects. Geingos received the N$100 000 cheque from the boys last Friday at State House.
“I am so grateful for all the support One Economy is receiving. There is however that assumption how we are going to use the money and I should say that the money is not caught up in our administration but flows out to our projects. “Your donation is typical of the kind will in this country but many not knowing where to start. We all want to make sure that this country work. I am very proud of you, well done. It is not often that young one’s come through with such support. It is amazing, so thank you so much for your support,” Geingos said as the boys looked on with smiles.
For the boys, 14 year-old Heinrich Le Roux and Albert Weck coming to State House was a dream come true. “Who would’ve thought that our efforts would bring us this far and shake the hand of the First Lady? We are happy we pulled it off and that the money will be used to help many children in need of schools,” the boys said.
The duo pedaled to Swakopmund from Windhoek in April covering on average 360 kilometres over a period of four days. The Trust has been working round the clock raising funds to establish an all-purpose multiple centre including various schools, a hospital and orphanage that will also give hope to disadvantaged children and cancer patients.
