BMW has revealed a new special edition M4 called the CS.
The German marque says that the new version fills the gap between the M4 Coupe Competition Package and the track-focused M4 GTS.
Built at the original BMW plant in Munich, the CS will have a 460bhp version of the M4’s 3.0-litre straight-six engine. The car achieves 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds and carries on to an electronically limited top speed of 174mph.
The M4 CS’s high performance can be attributed to technology such as mono-scroll turbochargers, a charge air cooler, high precision injection, Valvetronic variable valve timing and double-VANOS fully variable camshaft timing.
The seven-speed M double clutch transmission with Drivelogic comes as standard on the CS. This gearbox features a separate oil cooler and allows the driver to choose between automated gear changes or using the paddle shifters.
The M4 CS’s suspension has links and wheel carriers made of forged aluminium, making them extremely light, to the benefit of the driving dynamics.
The adaptive M suspension is designed to be equally at home on the road as on the track. The CS achieved a time of seven minutes and 38 seconds at the Nürburgring.
Despite possessing some impressive performance specifications, the M4 CS is not outrageously impractical. It has a combined fuel consumption figure of 33.6mpg and emits 197g/km of CO2.
The car’s interior creates a sporting atmosphere with lightweight M sports seats – trimmed in leather and Alacantara – and door panels with pull loops.
The M4 CS will cost N$289 000 in Europe, although UK prices have not yet been confirmed.
