AFTER months of refurbishments, Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has officially unveiled its transformed Hobas Camp, which has been upgraded to the tune of N$6 million.
The facility was officially reopened to the public last week.
NWR board Chairperson, Ambassador Leonard Iipumbu, said that the State-owned enterprise had managed to pull off an amazing transformation of the resort, and praised NWR Managing Director, Zelna Hengari, and her team.
“I know that this achievement has come after a lot of hard work and dedication. Hobas looks beautiful, and I am sure that everybody cannot wait to enjoy the new additions,” he said.
Hobas Camp is situated at the northern end of the second largest canyon in the world, the Fish River Canyon, making it one of the main tourist attractions in the South of the country.
The multi-million dollar refurbishments have added six rooms, a restaurant and an additional swimming to the camp.
Iipumbu said that apart from the hiking in the canyon, he is pleased with the cross-border activities that take place at Hobas between April and September every year.
“The main emphasis of the cross-border activities is the five-day cycling tour. I therefore encourage everyone to take part in the cycling tour, because it aims at contributing towards unlocking the tourism potential of the /Ai-/Ais-Richtersveld Transfrontier Park,” added Iipumbu.
Hengari emphasised that the upgrading and reintroduction of the Hobas Camp had vividly illustrated “government’s efforts and commitment to developing and growing the tourism sector”.
“As the custodians of the establishments within Namibia’s national parks, NWR is pleased with these new additions. The amount of work that went into realising this product is a testimony to the fact that when provided with the resources, NWR can deliver, Hengari added.
