Five men gang rape woman (19)

A 19-year-old woman was al­legedly savagely attacked by a group of five men who reportedly took turns to rape her during a horrific scene in Katutura’s Freedomland area.
The disturbing incident according to Windhoek City Police happened at around 23H40 before midnight at Omukaru Street in Freedomland about a week ago. Police said that the assailants are known to the vic­tim. Police also said that as investi­gations continue, two suspects have since been arrested and that a case of rape was opened on CR210/11/2016 filed at the Wanaheda Police Station.
In an unrelated matter although in the same area of Freedomland, a 19-year-old man died after being stabbed three times by an 18-year-old at a shebeen in Etanga Street. The incident, police said, happened at around 8p.m. after a fight broke out over a bottle of Capenheimer Wine between the two young men. The suspect at the time of going to print was still at large but a case of murder was opened at the Katutura Police Station.
In another matter, a 33-year-old man was arrested for stealing clothes from a neighbour’s hanging line and having confessed to selling the items in Katutura. Police said that the owner of the clothes realised that his clothes were missing and followed footprints to the house next door where some of the clothes were dis­covered. A case of theft was opened on CR167/11/2016 at the Katutura Police Station.
Meanwhile, the municipal po­lice also expressed concern over the alarming rate at which motorists change their vehicle colours or re­place the engines without notifying relevant owners.
This City Police said such action is defying the procedures of licens­ing motor vehicles regulation of the Road Traffic and Transport Regula­tions of 2001.
“When the colour of a motor ve­hicle is changed or the engine is replaced, the owner of such motor vehicle must notify the appropriate registering authority of the change of the replacement within 21 days after the change. The notification must be accompanied by a police clearance of the motor vehicle concerned. For the purposes of the regulation, co­lour means the main colour of the body of a motor vehicle viewed from the outside,” City Police said.
The police warned that failure to comply with the regulation will lead to the vehicle deemed as unfit to be used on the country’s roads and sub­sequently resulting in the suspension of the vehicle.
“It’s not only a legal requirement but also a crime prevention issue as criminals often resort to changing the colour of the vehicle in order to evade the authorities after commit­ting crime. The public is advised to assist with information that could lead to the successful prosecution of culprits.”
