MORE than 23 000 inhabitants of Ondangwa and villages surrounding the town in the Oshana region are already feeling the effects of a looming water scarcity, as they have been forced to go thirsty for many days.
According to the disgruntled inhabitants of Ondangwa, water taps have been dry since Saturday and the problem has persisted throughout the week.
The areas that are severely affected are Ondangwa town and surrounding villages leading up to as far as Omuthiya. Schools, clinics and hospitals in the area have also been forced to operate for days without water.
The inhabitants claimed that the town council did not inform or warn them of any water outage in advance and as a result many of the residents were forced to go hungry and thirsty for days.
“We do not know what the problem is; the town council did not inform us of anything. We do not know when the water will be restored but the council is saying that apparently the water problem will only be resolved on Friday (tomorrow). The animals are also suffering. There is no water to drink,” said one of the disgruntled residents of Ondangwa.
