POLICE last week arrested two people on charges of allegedly sending death threats to the Managing Director of Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), Zelna Hengari.
The two Hilma Naambo Johannes and Jafet Shikesho are also employees of the parastatal and are currently on bail of N$1 000 and free bail respectively which was granted by the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court.
The two were arrested following a joint police and MTC investigation that involved tracking the many sim cards the suspects allegedly used to send the illicit messages.
National police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi confirmed the arrests and said the two are expected back in court on July 3.
“We have made two arrests and the suspects are currently out on bail. They have been charged with crimen injuria and assault through threatening,” Shikwambi said.
According to information, Confidente managed to gather Johannes and Shikesho allegedly sent messages on March 14 2016 to Hengari with defamatory and insulting messages from mobile number 0813845539. Later that same day more insulting and defamatory messages were sent to her from another mobile number 0813952581.
The following day, Hengari continued to receive more defamatory and insulting messages from another mobile number 081467639 with another message being sent from mobile number 081408731. The messages allegedly also contained several death threats.
Last week’s arrests come almost two years after Hengari also opened another case of crimen injuria after death threats were issued against her.
The death threats and harassment started shortly after she was appointed NWR Managing Director.
At the time Inspector General of the Namibian police, Lieutenant General, Sebastian Ndeitunga said although there was no justification to give her police protection they were however investigating the matter.
“There is no justification at the moment for us to deploy a guard to her after we analysed the text messages sent to her. However we are monitoring the situation closely with keen interest and we have given her 24 hours access to the investigators assigned to her case. The investigations are continuing until we bring to book those responsible for the death threats,” he said.
When Hengari was appointed Managing Director all NWR employees were bombarded with emails of a derogatory nature towards Hengari while others accused her of having bogus educational qualifications.
“That woman is basically living in fear with no protection at all because ever since she was confirmed as MD we believe she has known no peace. We have received countless emails that have been claiming that she is not qualified and so forth,” sources had told Confidente then.
