MANY disgruntled residents from the Onandjaba settlement in the Okalongo constituency last week marched in its streets demanding the settlement’s chief control officer Armandus Kandowa vacate his office with immediate effect claiming that he is a corrupt official.
According to the residents, the lack of development facing Onandjaba settlement and Okalongo constituency at large is well documented, while endless efforts to address the problems facing the community of Onandjaba have been a concern of every resident.
The demonstrators further demanded Kandowa and his alleged business partner, Antonius Lungameni to pay back the money that they have apparently acquired through selling plots illegally. “Some individuals who are serving in the statutory committees are becoming the prime beneficiaries of this dubious practice and are selling the same plots they acquired through this scheme. Kandowa must leave the settlement office with immediate effect and all the plots at Onandjaba settlement must be audited by an independent body,” said one of the protestors who did not want to be known. “All plots acquired illegally must be forfeited to the state and the settlement must be provided with services as soon as possible and the 18 plots allocated to a well-connected political aide must be returned to the state and must be allocated one plot only,” said one of the demonstrators.
Several attempts to get comment from Kandowa and Lungameni proved futile.
Kandowa and Lungameni have been making headlines recently after news broke out that the two have been allegedly selling large plots to close friends and relatives. Omusati regional Governor, Erginus Endjala who received the demonstrators’ petition promised to respond to their queries with immediate effect.
