PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has reiterated that his Government was creditworthy and not “broke” contrary to portrayal in some public quarters that the Government was not financially sound.
Geingob emphasised that Namibia has a growing and a stable economy, and continues to be favourably rated by international rating agencies.
“Unlike what some wanted to portray, the Namibian Government is not broke. To the contrary, we are a creditworthy nation and the long-term outlook for Namibia is positive,” said Geingob.
The President was speaking at the opening of the Third Session of the Sixth Parliament of the country.
He said his Government will continue to build on the legacy of fiscal discipline and prudence that was built over 25 years.
“As well as this, within less than one year, we have demonstrated that we mean business when it comes to poverty eradication, promotion of transparency and building an inclusive Namibian house.” Geingob has implored on parliamentarians to set aside their personal differences and the desire to settle scores.
“Let us think of our people. Let us think of the poor and pull together as one people in one direction with one goal, prosperity for all,” he stressed.
He quoted French philosopher Jean-Francois Cope who said, “I invite everyone to choose forgiveness rather than division, teamwork over personal ambition.”
“Let us adopt the spirit encapsulated by these words and bury the hatchets of
hate and distrust and choose forgiveness, choose to work as one team, team Namibia in the spirit of Harambee and put aside our personal ambitions for the greater good of the nation,” he concluded.
