THE first ever Namibia Arts Fair, which will be a biannual event, will take place on Saturday, 28 July, at the Goethe Institut in Windhoek. The event will focus on connecting artists with an audience to exhibit and sell their work and further reinforce the value and importance of Namibian Artists in the community. The event will further aim to engage local artists to find new avenues for the exposure and sale of their work. Chief Executive Officer of Ursa Minor Events, Ramatoulie Muhammed, said there will be numerous networking opportunities and collaborations, where many artists will be encouraged to create their own mini events and exhibitions within their display spaces. “The local art community will be enriched by the workshops we give that teach them how to best display their craft and promote it for sale, both locally and internationally,” she said. Apart from the activities that include the artist stalls, live music, an art battle, children activities and food stalls, there will be workshops that will be facilitated by industry experts. The workshops include Calabash Carving with Este Wiggil, Mixed Media Painting with John Kalunda, 3D printing with Michael Swartbooi, Ultra Violet Photography with SkySam, ART, Our Universal Language with Rodeliö Lewis, Recycled Jewelry Workshop with Foibe Amundaba, Movement Improvisation with Haymich Olivier, and Elevation through Art Expression with Larry Kazombiaze. Art collectors and enthusiasts, both locally and internationally, are expected to attend the Namibia Arts Fair. “This is the group we think that will be most interested in purchasing local artwork and are possibly looking to expand their existing art collections,” said Muhammed. The arts fair will also include live contemporary performances, by local musicians, such as Miss H, Nga-I, Enchante and Mappz, just to mention a few. There will also be a food court and an art battle which will be hosted at the Kitchen from 18h00. The local art explosion would not be complete without a VIP Auction, where 50 percent of the proceeds from pieces sold will go to charity. Tickets cost N$30 in advance on eventstoday.com and N$40 at the gate. Follow Nam Art Fair on Facebook and Instagram and for more information email them at myursaminor@gmail.com
