… As all nominees for 27 October showdown are confirmed
By John Tuerijama
Long-distance runner Helalia Johannes, African and national mountain bike champion Michelle Vorster and Namibian hockey’s wonder girl Magreth Mengo are set to go head-to-head for the crown of Sportswomen of the Year, at the MTC/NSC Namibia Sports Awards on 27 October.
Mengo, who used to play her professional hockey in the Netherlands and is the captain of the national women’s hockey team, had been instrumental in Namibia’s qualification for the 2018 Indoor Hockey World Cup, slated for 7 to 11 February in Berlin, Germany.
She will be up against, Vorster who this year clinched gold at the African Mountain Bike Championship, held in August in Mauritius, and Johannes, who is no stranger to the MTC/NSC Sports Awards.
Johannes has scooped various awards in the past, and came second in this year’s the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon.
The theme for this year’s MTC/NSC Namibia Sports Awards will be ‘Celebrating our heroes of yesterday and today’.
Many have been honoured in the past, and many more are set to be honoured on the 27 October at Windhoek Country Club and Resort! Purchase corporate tables for 10 people for N$15 000 or tune in to NBC to watch it live!
